CDS – My RPG works

A bit of background

I started off, like many, writing my own rpgs in notebooks that never saw the light of day. Much, much later a bit of work in Chivalry & Sorcery Fandom lead to magazine reviews and articles and later writing for Chivalry and Sorcery, including the current 5th edition.

Chivalry and Sorcery

One of the earliest RPGs and one of the very first to put the notion of a working world that player characters were part of, Chivalry and Sorcery models a realistic medieval world, using research to present an accurate one. The Drivethrerpg link for that line is here

Essence RPGs

Essence started as “Chivalry and Sorcery Essence”, an attempt to put the system ideas of C&S 3rd/4th edition into a light format using a d20.  From that beginning there have been a couple of spin offs, and a new version of the core game without C&S branding

The free core version of the Essence system, which is 10 pages, including character sheet, a default “Robin Hood” setting and a sample adventure idea can be downloaded from here.

The paid for Essence line features Chivalry and Sorcery Essence, Rocket Jocks: Blast into the Future, a pulp SF game, and Vis Imperium Victoriana and its setting book, the Secret of the Silver Hedgehog, which are intended for role-playing in 19th Century adventures. You can get these from Drivethrurpg.

Free RPGS

Tales from an Ancient Empire was the result of a Twitter conversation. I wrote this over a weekend, an RPG of 80s fantasy film action. You can grab it here

This has been expanded to “Straight to Video” for Fantasy, SF and Spy games, includes some adventure ideas. Download Straight to Video here!

There is a character sheet for Straight to Video, that works for Tales from an Ancient Empire, can be grabbed from here
